How to Protect Yourself Against Scams

Raising Awareness

Addlington-West Group are becoming increasingly aware of scams whereby people are contacted via telephone, email and text message.

These people are often told that they are owed refunds amounting to several thousand pounds.

Raising awareness is crucial in the fight against scammers. So before you deal with any company that contacts you unexpectedly, always remain vigilant about unofficial communications.

Practical Tips to Stay Safe

It's essential to verify the credentials of any unfamiliar company or legal professional. Utilise resources like Companies House to delve into their background or search for online reviews.

Scam emails and letters generally contain spelling mistakes and poor grammar.

Scammers often ask you to make a payment so that your refund can be released. This is a scam that is sometimes called advance fee fraud.

When in doubt about a company claiming to be a claims management firm, consult the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) register of regulated companies. If they're not listed, it's best to steer clear and avoid any involvement with them.

If you are receiving nuisance calls, you can register with the Telephone Preference Service. This service is free and is operated by the Information Commissioner Office (ICO).

If you are not sure then contact us. Addlington-West Group are happy to offer you no-obligation advice and put you on the right track.
